Obituary for Toby Richard Bertanza

Toby Richard Bertanza, age 84, of Shelton entered into rest on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 in St. Vincent’s Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He is the devoted husband of 57 years of Jennie Dominquez Bertanza.
Mr. Bertanza was born in Bridgeport on March 30 1925, son of the late John and Jennie Fava Bertanza, and was a Shelton resident for over 16 years. He previously lived in Fairfield. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Navy Seabee’s in the Pacific Theater. He was a well known self-employed builder in Fairfield for many years, and was known for his excellent carpentry skills.
Mr. Bertanza was a member of the American Legion Post 74 in Fairfield, and past member of the former Subalpino Club and German Schwaben Club.
He is the beloved father of Lisa Bertanza of Palm Bay, FL, John Bertanza and his wife Joanne of Shelton, Brian Bertanza and his wife Karen J. of Shelton and Mark Bertanza and his wife Karen of Seymour. He also leaves his loving sister Rose “ Babe” Bertanza who was by his and Jennie’s side for the past several months to offer support. He is the loving grandfather of Mark J., Sean, Kristie, Jill, Karen Ann, Jake, Jenna, Shannon, Brian “ Toby”, Brittany, and Kyle, and great grandfather of P.J. and Nikole and also leaves several brother and sister in laws and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Richard.
Friends may greet his family on Monday from 4 to 8 PM in the Riverview Funeral Home 390 River Road Shelton. On Tuesday his funeral will leave the funeral home at 8:15 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM in St. Joseph Church Shelton. Burial with full military honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery Shelton.
